რა არის ნატურმორტი? 

როგორც ხელოვნების ენციკლოპედიურ ლექსიკონში ვკითხულობთ, ნატურმორტი ესაა სახვითი ხელოვნების ჟანრი ან თავად ამ ჟანრის ნაწარმოები. თავად გამოსახვის ობიექტიც (ვაშლი, მსხალი, ატამი და ა.შ.) ასევე იწოდება ნატურმორტად. იგი შეიძლება შედგებოდეს არა მხოლოდ უსულო საგნებისაგან, არამედ მოიცავდეს ბუნებრივ ფორმებსაც. ამიტომ უფრო ზუსტია სახელწოდება, რომელიც მიღებულია ინგლისურენოვან ქვეყნებში - Still life- "წყნარი სიცოცხლე" ანდა სიტყვა-სიტყვით თუ ვტარგმნით - "მაინც ცოცხალი".

XX ს-ში ნატურმორტის ჟანრში მუშაობენ განსხვავებული სტილური მიმართულების მხატვრები, რომლებიც ასევე განსხვავებულად წარმოსახავენ ფერს, ფორმას, სივრცეს. ნატურმორტის საუკეთესო ნიმუშებში არა მხოლოდ საგანთა სილამაზეა გახსნილი, არამედ ადამიანის შინაგანი სამყაროც, მისი გრძნობები და განცდები, განსაზღვრული ისტორიული ეპოქის რეალური ცხოვრების თავისებურებანი.
