Review: Greece wins gold in Men's rings at 2018 European Championships
On August 12, 2018, Eleftherios Petrounias won the gold medal for Greece in the Men's rings competition at the European Championships.
The gymnastics events were held at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Petrounias won the men's Olympic Champion Rings championship rings with a total score of 15.466 points (6.300 for difficulty and 9.166 for execution), despite battling an injury on his left shoulder.
Gymnast Ibrahim Colak of Turkey came in second place with the silver medal, scoring 15.1 points, while Courtney Tulloch of Great Britain finished in third place with the bronze, accumulating 15.0 points.
This marks Petrounias' fourth consecutive gold medal at the European Championship level (2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018). The 27-year-old Greek artist gymnast was also named "World Champion" in the men's still rings in 2015 and 2017 respectively. As Digital Journal custom championship rings, Petrounias had won the gold medal for Greece at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Thus far, Greece has won a total of eight medals at the European Championships: four gold, three silver, and one bronze.
